BRIDGEPORT, Conn. -- Nerissa Whittingham, a Bridgeport resident and former longtime Stamford resident, died Tuesday, Jan. 26. She was 85.
Born in Jamaica, Whittingham worked as a CNA with the Tandet Center in Stamford for six years and with Courtland Gardens for more than 20 years.
She is survived by her children, E. Bruce Burke of West Haven and Jacqueline Burke of Middletown; grandchildren Kevin Burke, Michelle Burke, Melissa Cox, Sherica Burke, Keisha Cox, Shantee Guy, Jasmine Guy, Kylie Burke and Danielle Burke; great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.
Whittingham was predeceased by her mother, Viola Butler, father and daughter Bernadette Cox.
Visiting hours will be from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 4, at Calvary Seventh-day Adventist Church, 827 Trumbull Ave., Bridgeport. Funeral services will follow at 7 p.m. at the church with Pastor Trevor Stewart officiating. Interment will take place at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 5 at St. John's (Queen of Peace) Cemetery in Stamford. Morton's Mortuary, in Bridgeport, assisted with the arrangements.
