BRIDGEPORT, Conn. -- Melva Paz Rivera, a Bridgeport resident, died Tuesday, Sept. 22 at Saint Vincent's Hospital after a 40-year battle with Lupus. She was 61.
Born on May 1, 1954 in Puerto Padre, Cuba, Rivera was retired from Remington Shavers.
Rivera was predeceased by her husband, Juan Antonio Rivera and parents, Luis and Estela Paz.
Melva is survived by a son, Eric Antonio Paz Rivera; two sisters, Amarilis "Millie" (John) Pitzschler, Mayra Paz (Santo Toranzo) Batista of Cuba; two brothers, Luis Paz Jr., Jose "Tony" (Julia) Paz; six nephews; two nieces; and a host of extended family and friends.
A service will be held on Saturday, Sept. 26, from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Community Funeral Chapels, 798 Park Ave., Bridgeport. A memorial service will be held Friday, Oct. 2, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Interment will follow to St. Michael's Cemetery, 2206 Stratford Ave. Stratford.
