BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – Mariana Planas of Bridgeport, widow of Victor Planas, died Sunday, Jan. 3, in St. Vincent's Medical Center in Bridgeport. She was 81.
She was born in Bo. Achiote in Naranjito, Puerto Rico, and relocated to the Bridgeport area many years ago. She loved music and enjoyed playing her guitar and singing. She also sang in the choir of St. Mary's Church, which she was a member for over 40 years.
A Cursillista of St. Mary's Parish and avid Mets fan, her joy in life was her quality time with her grandchildren.
She is survived by her sons Victor Planas and his spouse, Brenda; and Adalberto Planas and his spouse, Maryann; two grandsons Adalberto Planas, Jr. and Emmanuel Planas; and countless friends and other parishioners of her church.
Friends are invited to attend calling hours Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Funeraria Luz de Paz, (Peaceful Light Funeral Home), 426 E. Washington Ave., Bridgeport.
Services have been scheduled for Saturday at 9 a.m. at the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian burial in St. Mary's Parish, Bridgeport. Interment will follow in St. Michael's Cemetery, Stratford.
