BRIDGEPORT, Conn. -- Bridgeport resident Jose Luis Alves died on Wednesday, Jan. 6. He was 49.
Born in Portugal, Alves was a machine operator for many years. He worked for Mark IV Construction and retired from Burns Construction.
Alves enjoyed playing the accordion and was a devoted fan of his beloved soccer team, of F.C. Porto. He treasured spending time with his family.
His is survived by his wife of 29 years, Maria Conceicao Freitas Alves; mother, Isabel Maria Pereira Alve; sons Jose Alves of Stamford and Steve Alves of Bridgeport; brothers Celestino Alves of Bridgeport, Fernando Alves and his wife Maria of Shelton, Domingos Alves of Naugatuck, and Antonio Alves and his wife Alice of Bridgeport; sister Ines Baia and her husband Domingos of France; mother-in-law Virginia Gomes of Bridgeport; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his father, Serafim Alves.
Calling hours will be from 4 to 8 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 8, at Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull, Services will take be at 8 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 9, at the funeral home, followed by a 9 a.m. Mass at Our Lady of Fatima Church in Bridgeport. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Trumbull.
