BRIDGEPORT, Conn. — Bridgeport resident Ernest Alan "Al" Plucker died Wednesday, May 11. He was 88.
An East Hartford native, Plucker graduated from Wethersfield High School in 1945 and joined the U.S. Navy and was honorably discharged in 1946.
He started his work career in the heavy construction equipment field working for T.B. Holmes Co. in Hartford as a field sales representative and then moved to Fairfield in 1955 to be a parts manager.
He later worked for Shawmut Equipment Co., also in field sales.
Plucker also worked for Schiavone Scrap Metal in New Haven, then finished his work life as a bus driver and dispatcher at the Fairfield Senior Center.
Plucker is survived by his wife of 67 years, Beverly Mason Plucker; sons, Stephen Plucker and his wife Peni, James Plucker and his wife Dale, and Gregory Plucker and his fiance Jeryl Pfost.
He also is survived by his brother, Vincent Plucker; his sister, Margaret Osborne; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren: Jonathan Plucker, his wife Kathleen and their children Paige and Jack, Nathaniel Plucker, his wife Laura and their children Alexandria and Sydney, Kate Simon, her husband Tomas and their children Owen and Julia, Christopher Plucker and his wife Abby, Nicholas Plucker, Crystal Plucker, Deana Plucker and Michael Plucker.
Plucker was predeceased by a brother, David Plucker; a sister, Merle Parker; and his parents Ernest A. Plucker and Florence Hall Plucker.
Calling hours will be from 4-9 p.m. Friday in the Lesko & Polke Funeral Home, 1209 Post Road, Fairfield Center.
Funeral services will take place at 9:15 a.m. Saturday in the funeral home and 10 a.m. in Fairfield Grace Methodist Church, 1089 Fairfield Woods Road, Fairfield.
Burial will follow in Lawncroft Cemetery.
