BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – Elizabeth (Betty) Newton, of Bridgeport, died Wednesday, March 2. She was 90.
Born in Bridgeport on July 27, 1925, she was a daughter of the late Chauncey and Eva Sears. She was a lifelong area resident and graduated from Bassick High School in 1943. As a wife, mother, grandmother and friend, she enjoyed baking, knitting, gardening, dancing, shopping with her granddaughter, going to the movies with her grandson and meeting friends for lunch. She was a member of Crossroads Community Church in Trumbull and, at the age of 90, continued to serve in their preschool Sunday school class.
She is survived by her son, Craig Newton and his wife, Diane, of Easton; her granddaughter, Julia Nelson and her husband, Ben, of Middletown; her grandson, Dan and his wife, Joanna, of Ambridge, Pennsylvania; and great great-niece, Hannah Fratarcangeli of Easton.
She was predeceased by her husband of 59 years, Robert.
Friends may call on Monday from 4-7 p.m. at the Larson Funeral Home, 2496 North Ave., Bridgeport. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. in the Larson Funeral Home, with burial to follow at Mountain Grove Cemetery.
