BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – Dolores "Dee" Basso Cortello, a lifelong resident of Bridgeport, died on Sunday, Aug. 30, at St. Vincent's Medical Center.
Cortello was born in Bridgeport on Feb. 9, 1942, to Michael and Ann (Mayernick) Basso and graduated from Central High School.
She was an active member of the local community, working for the Bridgeport Federation of Democratic Women, as union secretary for AFSCME Local 1522, and for the Bridgeport Board of Education until retiring in 2011.
Cortello is survived by her husband; Sabatino (Sam), three children, Susan, Louis Cortello and his wife, Diane, and Tina; five grandchildren, and three brothers.
Visiting hours will be from 4 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, at Cyril Mullins Funeral Home, 399 White Plains Road in Trumbull.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Friday, at St. Patrick's Church, 170 Thompson Street in Bridgeport, with interment to follow at Mountain Grove Cemetery.
The family asks that attendees wear something purple or that lights up.
