BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – Anna Zukowski Pigiel, 95, of Bridgeport, died Wednesday, Aug. 19.
She was born Nov. 1, 1919, in Poland, to the late Ignacy and Stephanie Federowicz Zukowski. She emigrated from Poland immediately after World War II to join her husband, Kazimierz Pigiel, in Bridgeport. A few years later, they bought a home on Fairview Avenue in the late 1950s, where she resided until her passing.
She spent most of her working life as a seamstress working for various companies in the Bridgeport area including Warnaco and American Fabrics.
She was a parishioner of St Michael's the Archangel Church in Bridgeport. She was a member of the Polish Falcons of America Nest 107 since 1954, St. Michael's Senior citizens since 1997, Ladies Auxiliary, Veterans Post No. 24 since 1976, flag bearer since 1978 and Women's Catholic Council of America for more than 20 years.
She is survived by her son, John Pigiel, and his wife, Janice; and step grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Tuesday, at 10 a.m. at St. Michael the Archangel Church, Bridgeport, followed by interment in St. Michael Cemetery, Stratford.
