BRIDGEPORT, Conn. -- Ann Marie Shushelnycky, a former Bridgeport resident, died Monday, Sept. 21, in Waterbury after a long illness. She was 51.
A resident of the Village Green Nursing Home in Waterbury, Shushelnycky was a graduate of Notre Dame High School, Bridgeport Hospital School of Nursing, and Sacred Heart University. She worked for many years as a nurse at Bridgeport Hospital.
A past member and secretary of the Ukrainian-American Club, Shushelnycky was also a past member of the Holy Protection of the Blessed Virgin Mary Ukrainian Catholic Church Women's Guild. She often donated her time and skills to the annual Ukrainian Day festival in Stamford.
She was predeceased by her parents, William and Maria Shushelnycky.
Shushelnycky is survived by her brother Wilfried Shushelnycky; sister-in-law Louise Shushelnycky; nieces Tina Mortimer, Monica Juliano, and Cynthia Hickman; great-nieces Natalie Hickman and Gwendolyn Mortimer; great-nephew Owen Mortimer; caring friend Brian Brick; and other extended family members and friends.
Calling hours are from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 24, at Pistey Funeral Home, 2155 Main St., Stratford. Panikhida, or special prayers for the departed, will be said at 6 p.m.
Services are 9 a.m. Friday, Sept. 25, at the funeral home and at 10 a.m. at the Holy Protection of the Blessed Virgin Mary Ukrainian Catholic Church, 457 Noble Ave., Bridgeport.
Burial will be at St. John's Cemetery, Stratford. A luncheon will follow at the church.
The family prefers that memorials be made in the form of a good deed paid forward.
