State Board Of Ed Member From Trumbull Still In Jail After Four DUI Arrests

TRUMBULL, Conn. -- A state Board of Education member from Trumbull who has been arrested four times this year on drunken driving charges is still behind bars after being unable to post a $300,000 bond, according to the Connecticut Post.

Stephen Wright, 62, was arrested in New Haven in early May after he had failed to show up for one of his court appearances, according to the Connecticut Post. He had previously been arrested four times in three months, including arrests by Norwalk Police, Shelton Police, State Police and Stratford Police.

After his arrest in May, a judge ordered him held on the $300,000 due to the multiple pending cases, and out of concern that he was a threat to himself and others, the Connecticut Post reported.

Wright was appointed to the state Board of Education by Gov. Dannel Malloy in 2011 and reappointed in 2015, and previously served as chair of the Trumbull Board of Education, according to the Connecticut Post. Spokespersons for the state Board of Education and the governor's office did not comment to the Connecticut Post on the matter. Wright was expected to miss Wednesday's board meeting, the Connecticut Post reported.
