The lawsuit alleges that while the student was a fourth grader at St. Joseph School in Shelton in 2014, he was bullied so severely by two other fourth grade students and a teacher that he walked out of the school, according to the Connecticut Post. The lawsuit claims that the boy, who was 9 years old at the time, suffered physical and emotional abuse from the students and emotional abuse from the fourth grade teacher, according to the Connecticut Post.
The parents argue in their lawsuit that the Roman Catholic Diocese of Bridgeport, which operates the school, failed to provide a safe environment for their son, the Connecticut Post reported. It states that the staff was aware of the bullying but did not take action, according to the Connecticut Post.
A spokesperson for the Diocese of Bridgeport told the Connecticut Post that it would not comment on current litigation, but that it takes bullying very seriously.
The student is now 12 years old and attends public school in Shelton, according to the Connecticut Post.
