The president of Ray Flanagan Heating & Plumbing in Fairfield was arrested when police said he stole thousands of dollars worth of natural gas after Southern Connecticut Gas Co. shut off his home’s line for outstanding bills. Police said that Todd Flanagan, 45, set up illegal bypass piping to keep gas flowing to his home.
MGM Resorts International announced that it plans to develop a new casino in Bridgeport . MGM said that it plans to invest $675 million in the development , which will include a 300-room hotel, a 100,000 square-foot casino, and a 700-square-foot theater. MMCT Venture, a joint tribal venture, blasted the announcement, saying the new casino does not have legislative approval.
A Danbury man was charged with breaking into his ex-girlfriend’s Stratford home and trying to rob her and her new boyfriend, according to police. Jeffrey Bispo, 19, was arrested after police said he broke in and hit his ex with a gun before running off.
A Fairfield teen who drowned over the weekend in Perry’s Mill Pond was identified as 17-year-old Nagee Crowder, a senior at Fairfield Ludlow High School. A Fairfield Woods Middle School teacher has set up a GoFundMe account to help support Crowder’s family.
A 31-year-old Stamford woman was killed in a car accident on Route 15 on Sunday morning. State police said Bianca Diaz was traveling northbound when she lost control of her car, which entered a wood line on the shoulder and struck a tree, killing her.
A sizable population of lone star ticks were found on Manresa Island in Norwalk . The ticks are associated with a number of human and animal diseases such as ehrlichiosis, Southern tick-associated rash illness, spotted fever rickettsiosis, tularemia, Heartland virus, theileriosis in deer, and more recently, red meat allergy.
Former National Security Advisor Susan Rice will speak at Fairfield University later this month . Rice made headlines this month when it was revealed she had “unmasked” senior advisors to then-President-elect Donald Trump following a meeting they had with the crown prince of the United Arab Emirates last year.
A Stratford parking enforcement agent was writing a ticket when he heard a group of people shouting, and saw that somebody had collapsed. He and a Stratford police officer jumped into action to resuscitate the man, who had suffered a heart attack.
A Fairfield woman who had launched a campaign to find herself a new kidney after learning she needed a transplant, found a willing donor in her new neighbor. Christine Jenney had recently moved in and saw a flyer that Margaret Karbovanec had put up in the library, asking for a donor, and offered her kidney to her new neighbor.
A 53-year-old Shelton man died of injuries he sustained in a motorcycle accident last week. Robert “Bob” Vincent Freiler had been sent to the hospital after he crashed his motorcycle near the intersection of Howe Avenue and Grove Street in Shelton.
Several people expressed their outrage after two hunters killed a pair of black bears in the woods off of Indian Rock Place in Wilton last weekend. One Wilton resident said that she was planning to stage a protest when the two men appear in court in Norwalk next week.
A man wearing nothing but a bathrobe who had child pornography on his phone broke into a Fairfield home and watched a girl sleep, according to police. The girl’s family was able to trap Eric Kusheba, 36, and call 911, police said.
A plane landed on its nose while pulling in to the Danbury Municipal Airport on Friday morning. The pilot was the only person on the plane, and was uninjured in the rough landing.
