Eversource officials are reporting that the hardest hit areas with significant damage should have power restored by Sunday.

With more than 100,000 customers restored late Thursday, Eversource crews continue working around-the-clock, facing tough conditions, to restore power to customers, said officials.

Helicopters are being used to identify damage in remote areas and in some cases, bulldozers and other heavy equipment are needed to access repair locations, Eversource officials said.

The hardest hit areas including Brookfield, Danbury, Monroe and Newtown, where storm damage is most significant, are expected to be back online by Sunday at noon, with many being restored before that, they added.

The company reminds customers to be cautious while continuing with their own storm clean up, be careful moving or cutting tree limbs and look for any wires that may be entangled in debris.

“We realize being without power for any length of time can be difficult," said Eversource Vice President of Electric Operations Mike Hayhurst. "We strive to always be there for our customers when they need us and we remain focused on restoring service to all of those affected by this storm."

In Northern Fairfield County, restoration is continuing. As of 10 a.m. Friday, the breakdown of customers without power is as follows:

  • Danbury, 3,965
  • Newtown, 4,698
  • Brookfield 6,221
  • New Fairfield, 5,983
  • Ridgefield, 924
  • Bethel, 661
  • Redding, 100
