A judge dismissed the charges against 51-year-old Gladys Marquez and her boyfriend, 52-year-old Edgardo Soberal after prosecutors said they were dropping the charges, the Connecticut Post reported. A lawyer for the couple told the Connecticut Post that the state felt it was appropriate to drop the charges after an investigation.

Marquez is a parole officer who works in Bridgeport and Soberal is a retired parole officer who previously worked in Bridgeport, according to the Connecticut Post. Marquez had been neighbors with the 1-year-old's mother, who was 17, and whom Marquez thought was willing to give the baby up for adoption, the Connecticut Post reported.

The mother told police that while she was visiting relatives at the P.T. Barnum housing complex, Marquez and Soberal forced their way into the apartment and took the baby, according to the Connecticut Post. Police were eventually able to convince Marquez to give up the baby, the Connecticut Post reported.
