BRIDGEPORT, Conn. -- St. Vincent's Medical Center has been recognized for its dedication to patient safety by being awarded its eighth consecutive "A" grade in the Fall 2015 Hospital Safety Score, which rates how well hospitals protect patients from preventable medical errors, injuries, and infections within the hospital.
St. Vincent's also is being recognized as a "Straight A's" hospital for never receiving a grade lower than an A from the Hospital Safety Score since it was launched in June 2012. It is the only hospital in Connecticut to earn straight A's since 2012.
The Hospital Safety Score is the gold standard rating for patient safety, compiled under the guidance of the nation's leading patient safety experts and administered by The Leapfrog Group, a national, independent nonprofit.
"At St. Vincent's, patient safety is our number one priority," said Stuart Marcus, president and CEO of St. Vincent's Health Services. "I couldn't be more proud of our team for earning this recognition. Every day and with every patient, our providers commit themselves to delivering safe, high quality health care and an exceptional patient experience. We have been caring for generations of families in our region for over a century and our community knows they can trust St. Vincent's."
The score uses 28 measures of publicly available hospital safety data to produce a single A, B, C, D, or F score, representing a hospital's overall capacity to keep patients safe from preventable harm.
Adding to its list of safety credentials, St. Vincent's is the only hospital in the state to receive both the Leapfrog "A" and Nursing Magnet® recognition, the highest national award for nursing excellence. The hospital also was named a Top Performer on Key Quality Measures by the Joint Commission, the leading accreditor of national health care organizations.
