BRIDGEPORT, Conn. -- Bridgeport leaders are defending the efforts of their firefighters as they get word that owners of the Grant Street home of Rowayton Trading Co. plan to sue the city over damage from a massive fire at the site in September 2014, according to the CT Post.

Though firefighters have been praised for containing the fire, Grant Street LLC, which rents the space to Rowayton Trading, said firefighters made the blaze worse because officials hadn't studied the property data sheets about chemicals stored there. Grant officials say the fire could have been extinguished more quickly if firefighters had used foam right away rather than water, the CT Post reports.

Bridgeport leaders say firefighters were heroic in their efforts. Fire Chief Brian Rooney called any litigation to the contrary "shameful.' Property owners are looking to recoup the millions of dollars it is taking to clean up the property, the CT Post reports.
