On Tuesday, Gov. Dannel Malloy issued a severe cold weather alert due to the forecast showing cold temperatures Tuesday evening, with wind chill factor temperatures predicted to be in the low single digits or below zero each night into Saturday morning.
Finch and city officials are urging residents seeking shelter from the cold to come to the Greater Bridgeport Transit Main Bus Terminal at 710 Water St., open from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.
“We hope for the best and plan for the worst,” said Finch. “We’re tracking the forecast and conditions closely. We have a plan in place to keep kids and families safe regardless of the weather conditions we face.”
The Public Facilities Department and Emergency Operations Center have been preparing and are ready to tackle whatever comes their way, Finch said. The crews have added new technology that will improve communication and coordination to help clear streets more efficiently when it snows, and during any weather-related event.
Along with 13 other towns in Fairfield County, Bridgeport went online with the Veoci system, a software program that enables users to track resources and log incidents quickly and in real-time for the most effective response possible.
