The ceremony was held Monday afternoon at Seaside Park at the Soldiers & Sailors Monument.

"This is the City of Bridgeport's ceremony to honor those Americans who have lost their lives in service of their country," Thomas Kamasky Jr., a retired colonel in the U.S. Marine Corps, told the Daily Voice. "This morning we had a flag-raising at Veterans Memorial Park, and this afternoon we'll present the Stanley Powell Award to a worthy veteran."

Thomas E. Lopez was the recipient of the Powell Award. He was not at the ceremony because he is currently at a VA Hospital.

Bridgeport Mayor Bill Finch, and Emily Trudeau, a former lieutenant in the U.S. Navy who served in Iraq, spoke at the ceremony.
