Shelton resident Michelle Muoio has been selected as the new manager for the airport, which is owned by the city of Bridgeport, according to the Connecticut Post. Muoio is a manager n the flight operations section of Sikorsky Aircraft Corp., and previously worked with airport management and consulting firms and for the Federal Aviation Administration, the Connecticut Post reported.

The airport has gone through several management changes over the past few years as it completed FAA-mandated runway safety upgrades, according to the Connecticut Post. Work on the upgrades was halted when a construction worker was killed in 2015, and while federal officials audited the airport's policies, the Connecticut Post reported. The Connecticut Airport Authority eventually sent in an administrator to make sure the upgrades were completed, according to the Connecticut Post.

City officials including Mayor Joe Ganim and Public Facilities Director John Ricci have said that the airport, which continually loses money, should be sold, according to the Connecticut Post. They hope that a buyer such as CAA would take over operations, but that could take a few years to finalize and the airport needs a manager in the meantime, the Connecticut Post reported.

They cited Muoio's experience, education and local ties in their decision to bring her on as the new airport manager, and she was unanimously approved by the city's Airport Commission, according to the Connecticut Post.
