Jeymar and Kimberly Soto and their four children will be moving into a new Habitat CFC home in Bridgeport before the cold winter ends.

The Sotos, lifelong Bridgeport residents, are eager to move into their newly Habitat-built and Energy Star-rated home. Their insulation is poor in their current apartment and makes heating bills very expensive for the family.

The ceremony Saturday featured remarks from Habitat for Humanity officials and sponsors, a blessing of the house, and a presentation of gifts to the family.

"This means a lot of us — to finally be homeowners and break the cycle in our family of not owning a home," Kim Soto told Daily Voice at Saturday's ceremony. "It also means a lot because we have a sick child — and now he can have fewer hospital visits because we'll be living in an energy-efficient home."

Jeymar Soto echoed his wife's sentiments. "I think this is an unbelievable opportunity that Habitat has given us. We feel extremely blessed with the opportunity to become homeowners. We're super excited to move in," he said. "The process was a little over two years, but it was worth the wait. This is an unbelievable home, it came out beyond our expectations, and we appreciate it."

Stuart Adelberg, CEO of Habitat For Humanity of Coastal Fairfield County, welcomed the family to their new home.

"This is one of the best things we do," Adelberg said. "We get a chance to welcome a family into their brand new home, and start their life — it's what it's all about. It's why we do everything we do. These days it's hard not to walk away in tears of happiness when you see what it means to a family to start over in a brand new place.

"With all the people who are involved, it's really a community coming together. What could be better," he said.
