BRIDGEPORT, Conn. -- The University of Bridgeport's fifth annual Alumni Art Show is now open, and will remain on display through April 9.

This year's exhibit features an abundant mix of paintings, sculpture, documentary photography, ceramics, video and mixed media by more than 20 artists. Some include:

Wilhelmina de Haas, Class of '83, is a graphic artist and digital photographer who strives to create bold, one-of-a-kind pieces that push viewers to ponder potential meanings in her work.

Barbara Bonnie Deutsch, '67, is a ceramicist who experiments with construction and decorating techniques, continually challenging clay's limitations. She's a past New York State Art Educator of the Year.

Brian Flinn, '90 and '95, is an illustrator whose current work explores the limitations of digital media, both formally and conceptually. He's as assistant professor of art at Central Connecticut State University.

Holly Hawthorn, '74, fell in love with ceramics at UB, where she a trained with the celebrated artist Gabor Gergo. Her series of miniature porcelains incorporates shells, beach rake items and watercolor.

Henrique Hyndman, '82, is a mixed-media artist whose three-dimensional constructions reflect cultural and societal dimensions. His wood constructions incorporate paint and printer computer applications.

Bryan Konefsky, '80, is a self-taught media artist and director of Experiments in Cinema and the president of Basement Films. His films have been screened internationally; he's lectured in Russia, Korea, Serbia, Germany, Argentina and Cuba.

Ramon Peralta, '93, is the founder and creative director at Peralta Design, whose clients have included Warren Buffett's Secret Millionaire's Club financial-literacy competition for kids, Disney and the NFL.

Lisa Toto, '87, is a former newspaper/documentary photographer. Past assignments include the Chernobyl nuclear plant, both sides of the Berlin Wall the year it came down and Michael Gorbachev. She was nominated for a Pulitzer Prize for a story entitled "Keep UP With Mel."

The art show is at the Shelfhaudt Gallery, inside the Arnold Bernhard Center, 84 Iranistan Ave., in Bridgeport. The gallery is open Monday through Friday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., and on Saturdays from noon to 4 p.m.
