BRIDGEPORT, Conn. -- Several area businesses are encouraging their customers to make a donation to LifeBridge Community Services in Bridgeport this Thursday as part of Giving Day .
The nonprofit serves 17,000 low-income people from the region each year.
The donation can be as little as $10 on March 9 during the 24-hour online Fairfield County's Community Foundation fundraiser. Participating organizations including LifeBridge have the opportunity to compete for cash prizes for the most donors or the most dollars raised.
Last year, LifeBridge won second place and $12,500 for the most donors.
The funds raised and prizes won supported the organization’s work with low-income individuals, including counseling, financial education and job preparation, and youth services.
“We’re looking to get as many donors as possible. At the end of the day, it’s all about helping others," said LifeBridge Board Chair Harold Trischman.
Chip’s Family Restaurant; Dr. Saul Sloan, with Mondovi Dental in Trumbull; Kasson Jewelers in Southport; Linda’s Liquors in Shelton; He Energy Solutions in Stratford; and the Circle Diner in Fairfield are among the businesses working together to support LifeBridge.
Chip’s Family Restaurant, known for its pancakes, is offering up its pancake truck, Li’l Chip’s, for the day.
The truck will start in the LifeBridge parking lot with a pancake breakfast for employees who donate, followed by stops at Morgan Stanley offices in Fairfield and Greenwich and ending the afternoon in Trumbull.
“We figure by the end of the day there will be a lot of happy folks with full stomachs who now know more about LifeBridge and have made a donation,” said Trischman.
He and Chip’s owner George Chatzopoulos and managers Adam and Dina Bajko planned the activities.
