BRIDGEPORT, Conn. -- The Child & Family Guidance Center, which has clinics in Bridgeport and Norwalk, has had many success stories and is looking for support from the community to continue its efforts.
Eugenio and Anthony are two young men who are Child & Guidance Center success stories. Donations to the center will help it create more stories like theirs.
Eugenio entered the Care Coordination program in seventh grade. Frequently suspended from school and lacking respect for authority, his family came to the program for help. In addition to creating a circle of support for Eugenio, the team built on his interest in mechanics and arranged for Bob Wade, owner of Bob's Auto Service in Bridgeport, to mentor him.
Today, Eugenio, 22, still is employed by Bob's Auto Service, where he is treated like a member of the family.
Anthony is 16. His parents reached out to the center because of his difficulty resisting peer pressure. Like Eugenio, Anthony also enjoys fixing things.
The center approached Bob's Auto Service about taking on a second mentee, and Bob welcomed Anthony with open arms. Anthony now works for Bob's Auto Service on the weekends. Anthony's parents cannot say enough good things about the positive impact this has had on their son's life.
More than 90 percent of the 3,100 children and families served by The Child & Family Guidance Center last year live in poverty. The center hopes all Fairfield County children will be emotionally and psychologically healthy so they can reach their maximum potential in life.
The Bridgeport Clinic of The Child & Family Guidance Center is at 180 Fairfield Ave. The Norwalk clinic is at 1 Park St.
