BRIDGEPORT, Conn. -- Known for it's highlight performances and family-like atmosphere, Bridgeport's Gathering of the Vibes has also served as an unofficial matchmaker for like-minded music aficionados in the Northeast.
Rhode Island native Kris Cabral and her husband Tim Peterson credit the music festival with bringing them together and ultimately tying the knot. Cabral, a URI faculty member, and Peterson, an accountant by trade, met in 2009 on one of the Vibes' online message boards. "The Vibes message board allows for individuals to develop great insight into one another, given the range of topics discussed, Cabral explains. As a community, we've shared everything from family issues, personal problems, musical discussions, political debates, and so much more."
"Tim and I started to talk more on the board via private messaging and made a plan to meet in person. He lived 2.5 hours from me, and in spite of the distance, we made plans to see each other every weekend from then on. We knew within months that we were the one for one another and 7 months later we were engaged."
In August of 2013 the couple was married and still continue to make their annual pilgrimage to the Vibes. "We are so grateful to the Gathering of the Vibes community for bringing us together," Cabral exclaims.
Cabral and Peterson are not alone; countless couples have credited both the concert and its message boards with introducing them to their special someone. "I love the festival and the friendships I've made on the message board, I consider the people I've met along the way to be my second family!" says Cabral.
