BRIDGEPORT, Conn. -- Bridgeport Rescue Mission will be working with two local agencies this Thanksgiving to provide 100 struggling seniors with food and clothing this holiday season.
"We are blessed to have compassionate community partners who are willing to step up in a time of need and work together to make sure no one goes hungry this Thanksgiving," said Terry Wilcox, executive director of the mission.
The group will be working with Greater Bridgeport Transit to transport a large group of seniors from two Park City Communities apartment complexes to the mission's Great ThanksGiving Project, a program that will provide up to 3,000 Thanksgiving food bags and coats to those in need.
The mission will be giving the food and coats away between 12:30-2:30 p.m. from Friday, through Monday, according to statement from the group.
Elderly residents from the Eleanor Apartments and Fireside Apartments, both operated by Park City Communities, will be among those transported by the Greater Bridgeport Transit on consecutive days at no cost.
ThanksGiving Project will take place at the Webster Bank Arena, 600 Main St. In addition to seniors, the program is open to homeless men, women and children as well as others in need of food and services.
