BRIDGEPORT, Conn. — The family of Nidia “Yubi” Gonzalez, whose murder shocked Bridgeport and led to an Amber Alert for her abducted daughter last Friday, is trying to raise money to send her body home to her native Guatemala for burial.

Gonzalez, 26, was stabbed to death by her boyfriend Oscar Hernandez, 39, in their Greenwood Street apartment, police said. He then fled with their 6-year-old daughter, Aylin Sofia Hernandez, sparking an Amber Alert.

Oscar Hernandez, 39, was in this country illegally after being deported to his native El Salvador after an assault conviction. He was apprehended Friday afternoon after a police pursuit 350 miles away in Pennsylvania. Aylin, a 6-year-old first-grader, was found safe. He expected to return to Bridgeport to face homicide charges.

"She was a mother of a beautiful little girl, Aylin Sofia Hernandez. She was a cherished daughter, a loving sister, and an amazing friend. Yubi was always there to support and protect the ones she loved," her sister, El Shory González, said on the GoFundMe webpage.

"We want to arrange a funeral to send her body to rest in peace as her final resting place to our home country, Guatemala. Thank you for any contributions you can make, it is greatly appreciated and will help significantly," the webpage says.

As of late Monday, $1,340 of the $10,000 goal had been raised.
