Bridgeport Band Oh, Cassius! Looking For Next Big Break

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. -- You can catch Bridgeport’s Oh, Cassius! playing the occasional Sunday morning brunch set at Harborview Market in the Black Rock section of the Park City. But treasure that moment because there is a good chance those gigs may be in the rear view mirror for the talented band before too long.

After the smash debut of their new EP, “Ides of March” at the Fairfield Theatre Company on July 17, the songwriting duo of Meredith DiMenna and John Torres are looking for that breakout moment.

Such a moment could come soon as the locals recently played in the Keystone State at the Campfire Outdoor Adventure and Music Show in Lakewood, Pa. Needless to say, Oh, Cassius! was delighted with the opportunity to play at such a prestigious event.

“John’s friend Stephen Scholz was working with the festival somehow and he let them know about us. Steve Kops, one of the founders, really fell in love with the song ‘Carpenter’ that John wrote and made a beautiful video for,” DiMenna said. “They came down to see us at the Walrus and Carpenter in Bridgeport and from there, they decided to add us to the festival schedule.”

“This was our first big festival show,” said DiMenna. “We played the main stage with our full band and it was only our second full band show so there was a lot of excitement for us about all of that.”

When catching an Oh, Cassius! show at the Harborview, Walrus and Carpenter in Black Rock or Fairfield Theatre Company, the audience usually is familiar with the tunes. At the Campfire Festival, Torres, DiMenna and the full band are reaching out to an entirely new audience.

“We both love to play for new people,” said DiMenna. “Of course, we can’t wait for the day when people know our music and sing along with us but for now, the opportunity to play for a large audience and expose people to our music is exactly the kind of challenge we want.”
