Southport Galleries Sets Sail With Exhibition of Legendary Seafarer

SOUTHPORT, Conn. — A local legend who spent five years circumnavigating the world — all the while sketching and painting the astounding vistas and ports of call he encountered — is the featured artist at a Southport Galleries exhibition opening May 11.

Milford resident Brechin Morgan’s artistic vision was inspired by his years aboard the 27-foot sailing vessel Otter. More recently, he’s been chronicling the beauty of local waters from his studio in Bridgeport.

“Blessing of the Fleet,” one of his works featuring Southport’s lovely harbor, will be the featured image for the village’s annual Blessing of the Fleet parade on June 24.

The exhibition, “Voyages & Vistas: Southport to Sri Lanka,” opens with a Meet the Artist reception from 5 to 8 p.m. It is free and open to the public.

Southport Galleries, located at 330 Pequot Avenue, is open 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and any day by appointment.
