Not so at the Quick Center for the Arts.

The Fairfield University-based arts haven is offering four camp intensives this summer, teaching youngsters the ins and outs of hip hop dance, fashion design, graffiti and singing for the stage.

The sessions give campers a chance to work with professional artists — from accomplished performers who have graced the stage at Carnegie Hall to visual artists whose work has been exhibited across the state and beyond.

Fashion Design, which is almost sold out, runs from July 10 to 13 and offers those 10 to 14 a chance to learn about color and texture, sketching, pattern making, draping and sewing.

Children ages 9 and up can pop and lock to their heart’s content at hip hop camp from July 17 to 20.

Campers will learn the process of creating compelling spray paint masterpieces in graffiti camp, running July 24 to 27 for those 10 and up.

Led by a Juilliard-trained soprano, Singing for the Stage will explore musical theater, opera, standard, pop and jazz. It runs July 30 to Aug. 3 and Aug. 7 to 10 for kids 11 and up.

And then there’s Bass Camp, a one-day intensive on Aug. 28 for lovers of the dulcet tones of the double bass.

Most camps run from Monday through Thursday, 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. For more information, visit the website.
