BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – The Bijou Theatre in Bridgeport is presenting the stage production of "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest,” beginning this weekend and continuing through Feb. 7.
Written by Dale Wasserman and directed by Tanya Feduik-Smith, "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" features local actors, including John R Smith Jr. and William Cody of Trumbull; Jhulenty Delossantos, Betzabeth Castro and Ainsley Andrade of Bridgeport; Christopher Cooney of Monroe; Daniel J. Mulvihill of Danbury; Tom Torpey, Paul Brown and Geoffrey Gilbert of Stratford; Nick Kaye of Bethel; Bryn Berg of Westbrook; and Nicole Yates of Middlebury.
Based on the film starring Jack Nicholson, "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" revolves around a charming rogue who contrives to serve a short sentence in an airy mental institution rather in a prison. This, he learns, was a mistake. He clashes with the head nurse. Quickly, he takes over the yard and accomplishes what the medical profession has been unable to do for 12 years -- he makes a presumed deaf and dumb Indian talk.
He leads others out of introversion, stages a revolt so that they can see the World Series on television, and arranges a rollicking midnight party with liquor and chippies. For one offense, the head nurse has him submit to shock treatment. The party is too horrid for her and she forces him to submit to a final correction: a frontal lobotomy.
The production will be presented Friday, Jan 29 and Saturday, Jan. 30 at 8 p.m., Friday, Feb. 5 at 8 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 6 at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m., and Sunday, Feb. 7 at 5 p.m.
Tickets are $23 for theatre seating and $28 for table seating. Special theatre seat pricing is available for students and seniors.
