Lobster Rolls: 9 Fairfield County 'Can't Miss' Summer Seafood Stunners

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. --  It's lobster season, which means it's time to indulge in plump lobster rolls, piled high on soft buns drizzled with creamy, tangy, buttery flavors.

All of which begs the question: Where do you go when you're in a seafood medley type of mood? We've listed some spots below but would love your thoughts on area favorites.

  • Black Duck Cafe, Westport: The lobster choices are overwhelming -- in a good way -- at Black Duck, where, amidst a view of the Saugatuck River, you can dine on a classic lobster roll, a "King Lobster Roll" with a double portion of hot and buttery meat (served “Po’ Boy” style, with steak fries) a Lobster Reuben or a Lobster BLT.
  • Boothbay Lobster Company, Stamford: Boothbay prides itself on bringing "wicked fresh" Maine seafood to its diners. Expect lobster sliders and lobster rolls, the latter of which includes chilled tail, knuckle and claw meat with a nice ratio of butter, herbs, meat and bread.
  • Crave, Fairfield: You may need a fork to conquer this lobster roll. Bursting with fresh claw and tail meat, it's sautéed with butter and served warm on a toasted hot dog bun with coleslaw and French fries.
  • Knapp's Landing, Stratford: A water view is what lobster rolls are made of. Here, the "KIng Lobster Roll" -- a summer "must" -- is piled high with thick chunks of meat on a grilled brioche.
  • Elm, New Canaan: Stray from tradition with Elm's lobster roll, mixed with strips of bacon and arugula on a toasted brioche bun.
  • The Chelsea, Fairfield: Expect a classic roll amidst a trendy setting: A hot buttery lobster roll on a pretzel dog bun with slaw and Bistro fries.
  • The Restaurant at Rowayton Seafood, Norwalk: Opt for a seat outside at the Rowayton Seafood Market, or head indoors for a more upscale experience. Either way, you'll be digging into a piled high favorite poached in butter and seasoned with Old Bay and lemon.
  • Sono Seaport Seafood, Norwalk: Sit by the water and choose between freshly plucked lobster meat tossed in mayo with crispy celery or select Maine lobster meat poached in butter and stuffed in a New England style hot dog roll.
  • Stew Leonard's, Norwalk, Danbury: Take your lunch to the Hoedown or grab lobster rolls to go at Stew's where the hot dog buns and the chunky lobster salad are what Connecticut summers are made of.
