According to Irv Silverman, the second generation owner of the family-run property, the farm has expanded its repertoire of pumpkins to include everything from the fairytale-like Cinderella variety to the unique-looking peanut to the whimsical spider, colorful pink and easy-to-decorate white.
“People like to mix and match them in displays,” he said. The pumpkin patch also features a variety of fall squashes, gourds, straw bales, cornstalks, scarecrows and colorful mums.
As part of the farm’s classic tradition, you can win a free pumpkin by guessing the weight of each pumpkin it is taken to the scale. If the guess is within 2 ounces either way, the pumpkin is free regardless of size. And yes, says Silverman, they give away thousands of free pumpkins each year.
October is especially busy with a host of special weekend events, which include live musical performances and local food trucks serving everything from meatball grinders to homemade kettle corn to the Italian specialties of Bridgeport’s Vazzy’s.
And, of course, there’s also the extensive farm stand where you’ll find fresh-pressed cider along with a variety of fruit and pumpkin pies and assorted other treats. Scenic weekend tractor rides through the orchards are another popular attraction as is the 5-acre petting zoo complete with deer, llamas, goat, sheep, pigs, bunnies and buffalo.
The farm’s website lists all attractions, fees and other information.
