BRIDGEPORT, Conn. — The fascinating story of how refugees from the pogroms of Russian and Holocaust survivors figured into the state’s farming history are part of one Bridgeport filmmaker’s latest work to be aired on CPTV this month.
Producing Director Frank Borres’ “Harvesting Stones: The Jewish Farmers of Eastern Connecticut” airs at 8 p.m. May 25.
Borres, the recently named president of the Bridgeport Chamber of Commerce, worked on the film with Executive Producer Jerry Fischer from New London.
The feature-length documentary details the Baron de Hirsch-financed Jewish farms scattered through eastern Connecticut, the transition from dairy farms to raising chickens, the resorts some of them evolve into and the challengers of both rocky soil and anti-Semitism.
