BLACK ROCK, Conn. --  There's a popular catch-phrase: “Know your farmers, know your food." And there's nowhere better to get up close and personal with your local purveyors than with a farmers market.

Black Rock Farmers Market, St. Ann Field, 481 Brewster Street, Black Rock

Hours of Operation: Saturdays, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Goes Until: October 17 (started June 20)

Vendors You’ll Find: From 25 to 30 depending on the week; some of the regulars include Sport Hill Farm, Arcadia Farm, Chestnut Hollow Farms, Whisk and Brush, Granola by Jen, Dorset Maple Reserve, Jane’s Good Food, Source Coffeehouse and King's Kitchen.

Of Special Note: There are different local musicians every Saturday. A yoga program was recently added. The market, started by two local moms, Karyn Leito and Michelle Margo, also includes an artisan pop up market that runs the last Saturday of every month.

This is the market's second season; it ends with a huge celebration called the Hootenanny where, in addition to extended hours, there are beer tastings from local breweries and a pig roast by Walrus + Carpenter. This year there will also be a corn hole tournament.
