Fairfield’s b.good restaurant will play host to James “The Beast” McGrath and Team Ninja Warrior 2017 champs Allyssa Beird and Joe “The Weatherman” Moravski as they bring awareness to childhood summer hunger.

At 3 p.m., the trio will pair with b.good and Food Rescue US to kick off the “Kids Eat Free Until School Start” campaign, in which diners get a free kid’s meal with the purchase of an adult entree.

b.good will donate 5% of retail sales that day to Food Rescue US (FRUS).

Fans can also enjoy a fun video of the ninjas on their food rescues a few weeks ago.

The ninja food rescue is part of an ongoing relationship between the two companies. Since b.good opened in August 2015, it has donated $1,975 in cash to FRUS, giving its guests the opportunity to participate in each donation.

As part of its unique charitable mandate, the restaurant holds quarterly benefit days on which it donates 5% of sales to FRUS. A b.good mobile app gives guests the ongoing opportunity to donate as well.

These donations have funded more than 39,000 rescued meals.

“Because healthy, fresh food, is an important part of ninjas’ physical training, our ninja customers like Allyssa and Joe are perfect advocates to help raise awareness about the availability of wasted healthy food to end childhood hunger,” said Molli Hourihan, who owns b.good Fairfield with her husband Steve.

Food Rescue US is a volunteer-driven, technology-fueled process coordinates with restaurants, farms, grocers, bakeries, caterers and other food-service organizations who have foods destined to be thrown away. Instead, it delivers the food to community kitchens, food pantries and other hunger relief organizations serving food insecure individuals and families.

Through Food Rescue US, over 19 million meals have been rescued and delivered in the US, saving more than 29 million pounds of food from landfill.
