BRIDGEPORT, Conn. -- St. Vincent's SWIM Across the Sound will host its Annual Sports Gala and Auction benefitting Connecticut emergency services workers and first responders and their families battling cancer on Thursday, Feb. 4.
Legendary New York Yankee Bucky Dent will be the guest speaker at the event at Anthony's Ocean View, New Haven.
Dent is a former American Major League Baseball player and manager who earned two World Series rings as the starting shortstop for the New York Yankees in 1977 and 1978. He was voted the World Series MVP in 1978 and is most famous for his home run in a tie-breaker game against the Boston Red Sox at the end of the 1978 season.
Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Connecticut is the title sponsor of this event. All donations raised during the event will provide financial support for the people who work so hard to keep us safe so they can worry less about utility bills, mortgage, car insurance, and other expenses and concentrate on recovering from their illness.

St. Vincent's SWIM Across the Sound is a charitable not-for-profit organization run by the St. Vincent's Medical Center Foundation of Bridgeport. Since 1987, the SWIM has had a unique niche helping individuals and families struggling through the difficult changes that cancer it brings with it.
