The event, a food tasting and retail experience, has drawn over 2,000 people each year to see what Westport’s Saugatuck section has to offer by promoting the businesses and community in a door-to-door sampling of the restaurants, merchants and activities that the area has to offer.

“It really is a pleasure to put this festival on,” said Matthew Mandell, executive director of the Chamber of Commerce. “Everyone who comes out has a smile on their face, and it’s totally infectious.”

Almost four dozen restaurants and merchants will be welcoming attendees to taste and see what they have to offer. As always, there will be children’s activities and live music with local bands. There will also be dance and taekwando demonstrations.

New this year will be two “beer gardens” and many of the restaurants offering specialty drinks. Many of these same venues will be offering a special Saugatuck happy hour, inviting event-goers to return to enjoy more food and libations after the festival. Each year since the chamber started charging $10 a person, $5 for kids, to attend, a donation has been made to the Gillespie Center’s food pantry, for a total of $14,000.

“The Slice of Saugatuck is a unique event that helps fill our pantry and gives the community a great day,” said Jeff Weiser, executive director of Homes With Hope. “We thank the chamber and all the merchants for their support in putting on this wonderful festival that highlights a gem of Westport.”
