Newman’s Own Foundation made the award to The WorkPlace in celebration of the foundation's 10th anniversary. The foundation awarded a total of $1.5 million in grants to 29 organizations that provide services to United States military men, women, veterans and their families.

The WorkPlace is working with Homes for the Brave and Columbus House to provide The Daring Way workshop to homeless veterans. It is a highly interactive workshop based on the research of Brené Brown. Brown's work is the subject of a New York Times Best Seller and has been featured on the Oprah Winfrey Network.

The workshop curriculum will be used to help homeless veterans learn how to show up, be seen and live braver lives.

“This grant enables us to enhance our holistic approach to meeting the needs of veterans while increasing the probability of obtaining employment,” said Joseph Carbone, president and CEO of The WorkPlace. “The support of Newman’s Own Foundation is helping us fulfill our mission to develop a well-educated, well-trained and self-sufficient workforce.”

“Our men and women in uniform make great sacrifices in their own lives to protect the unique freedom, privileges, and opportunities we enjoy as Americans. It is not so much a responsibility to support them, but more a privilege to express our gratitude for their service,” said Robert Forrester, president and CEO of Newman’s Own Foundation. “We’re proud to fund The WorkPlace in its efforts to make a difference in the lives of our veterans and their families.”

Paul Newman created Newman’s Own Foundation in 2005. The establishment of the foundation ensured that Newman’s legacy would live on, continuing his commitment to give all profits from the sale of Newman’s Own food products to charity. Since 1982, a total of $450 million has been donated to thousands of charities around the world.
