BRIDGEPORT, Conn. -- As much as the annual Barnum Festival is about honoring the legacy and heritage of P.T. Barnum, the events also showcase restaurants, nightlife and attractions in and around Bridgeport.
The celebration continues Saturday, June 4, with the Barnum Pub Fest to celebrate the vibrant restaurants and pubs along Fairfield Avenue in Bridgeport’s Black Rock section.
The day of merriment begins with registration at 11 a.m. at Brennan’s Shebeen, 2652 Fairfield Ave. in Black Rock. Guests will register at Brennan’s, and the fee is $20.
"The Festival works to showcase all the great things the city of Bridgeport and the surrounding area has to offer," said Ringmaster Jason Julian. "We decided to move the Pub Fest to Black Rock this year to showcase the development and the restaurants and pubs in this section of the city."
Participating restaurants and bars will serve Barnum Pub Festival drinks. The other venues participating in the festival are Matty’s Corner, Fire Engine Pizza Company, Tru North, Tautog Tavern, Crafty Monk and BRYAC Restaurant and Raw Bar. Guests will need to show a wristband to get festival-themed drinks.
At each venue, guests will receive a card. Bring your 5-card poker hands back to Brennan’s Shebeen at 5:30, and those with the best hands are eligible for a prize drawing.
The Barnum Festival was founded in 1949 to build community spirit in the region and to pay homage to P.T. Barnum - showman, entrepreneur and philanthropist. He founded the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus.
