Through state and federal advocacy, CHA represents the interests of Connecticut's hospitals on key health care issues in the areas of quality and patient safety, access and coverage, workforce, community health, health equity and hospital reimbursement.
"I look forward to working with my colleagues statewide on our shared goals of quality care, cost containment and improved outcomes for patients in communities across Connecticut," said Marcus. "Together we will continue to advocate for a strong health care system that supports patient care and access for all."
This past spring, Marcus was named co-chair of CHA's new statewide asthma initiative to improve patient care and access, and to design new models of care that will transform community partner and hospital relationships. Nearly 100 hospital leaders, community partners, members of state government and other experts participate in this initiative.
Marcus joined St. Vincent's in 2006, and was appointed president and CEO of St. Vincent's health services in 2014. He was named president of St. Vincent's Medical Center in 2012 after having served as senior vice president, chief medical officer, and chairman of oncology at St. Vincent's. Marcus also serves as professor of surgery for the Frank H. Netter MD School of Medicine at Quinnipiac University. He was instrumental in establishing St. Vincent's as the principal clinical partner for the school.
Before joining St. Vincent's, he held clinical leadership positions at New York University Medical Center and Bellevue Hospital Center. He received his medical degree from Duke University School of Medicine, was trained in general surgery at NYU/Bellevue, and completed a fellowship in surgical oncology research at the National Cancer Institute in Bethesda, Maryland. Marcus has published extensively in peer reviewed medical journals and is a speaker and presenter at conferences across the country.
