The layoffs come after GE moved 500 employees from its headquarters in Fairfield to Norwalk, following the relocation of its corporate headquarters from Fairfield to Boston, the Connecticut Post reported. The Norwalk office is GE's last major office center in southwestern Connecticut, according to the Connecticut Post.

GE Digital was launched by former GE CEO Jeff Immelt and run by Beth Comstock of Westport, according to the Connecticut Post. Comstock is one of three vice chairmen stepping down at the company as GE cuts jobs to reduce expenses, according to the Connecticut Post.

In addition to the layoffs affecting contributors and managers in Norwalk, workers in San Ramon, California also received notice that GE would be cutting jobs there, according to the Connecticut Post.
