BRIDGEPORT, Conn. -- Chris Mattei is leaving the U.S. Attorney’s Office to join the Bridgeport and New Haven-based law firm of Koskoff, Koskoff & Bieder.
Mattei is currently chief of the Financial Fraud and Public Corruption Unit of the U.S, Attorney’s Office for the District of Connecticut and director of its Public Corruption Task Force.
"We are excited that Chris Mattei has decided to join Koskoff, Koskoff & Bieder,” said James Horwitz of Koskoff, Koskoff & Bieder. “Over the past eight years, Chris has dealt with some of the highest-profile cases we’ve seen in Connecticut, and we are privileged to have him bring his considerable experience to us.”
"Chris has already demonstrated the capacity to effectively handle complex jury trials earning him the respect of the bench and bar alike,” said Michael Koskoff of Koskoff, Koskoff & Bieder. “Equally important is the fact that Chris possesses the compassion and creativity necessary to be a great trial lawyer. He is a welcome addition to our trial team.”
In his positions at the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Mattei oversaw all white-collar, federal criminal investigations and prosecutions in the State of Connecticut. He directed the Connecticut Public Corruption Task Force, a multi-agency investigative unit tasked with detecting and prosecuting corruption at all levels of government.
In 2014, Mattei helped prosecute former Gov. John G. Rowland. Prior to that, he prosecuted a bribery ring, resulting in the conviction of seven individuals, including Robert Braddock Jr., the finance director for a U.S. congressional campaign. Most recently, Mattei prosecuted high-ranking public officials for accepting kickbacks and engaging in fraud, and a Ridgefield osteopath for health-care fraud.
Mattei, a graduate of Georgetown University who received his lawdegree from the University of Connecticut School of Law in 2005, will be joining Koskoff, Koskoff & Bieder in October.
