According to the Connecticut Economic Resource Center, the project was the recipient of the coveted Celebrate CT! award at ceremonies in Hartford.
Jeff Bishop, director of the Center for Sustainable Business Growth, nominated the Bridgeport company for the award.
Calling the choice a “no-brainer,” Bishop called the 2-million-square-foot, mixed-used project “the most significant economic development project in decades.”
Bishop pointed to potential for the project to boost the local economy, citing businesses such as Bass Pro Shops, Cinépolis, a high-end cinema, Starbucks, Chipotle and the Hampton Inn and Suites as tenants.
Bass Pro Shops opened at Steelponte Harbor in November, according to media reports. Its 150,000-square-foot store features a restaurant; billiards parlor, bowling alley, archery range and aquarium.
“The future for Bridgeport looks bright,” Bishop said.
Developer Robert Christoph said Steelpointe Harbor “has already created hundreds of construction jobs and will create thousands of jobs in the upcoming years.”
“It’s an exciting time for us as the developer and for Bridgeport as a city,” Christoph added.
Robert Santy, CERC’s president and CEO, said the award acknowledges “key people, programs and projects that are stimulating new jobs and investment in our economy.”
